Rear wheel bearings wear out over time. When they do, you can tell because you’ll be able to hear a loud growling noise while driving. Often, the growling of one bearing is so loud that it masks other sounds that aren't as pronounced - like the other rear wheel bearing. For this reason, it is recommended that rear wheel bearings be changed in pairs.
