The release bearing (AKA throw out bearing) slides back and forth along the this guide tube. After awhile, the release bearing will wear grooves into the guide tube. If a new clutch kit is being installed, as well as a new release bearing, reuse of the worn guide tube could cause the new bearing to get jammed up during clutch engagement and disengagement. This will cause choppy engagement, and may result in premature wear of the new clutch kit.
